Capped Fence

Snow fall has covered the ground and capped the split rail fence in several inches of white powder.  What remains of the fall foliage gives way to cover the ground in brilliant hues of reds, golds, and yellows.

Cable Mill

The Cable Mill within Cades Cove, built in 1867 by its namesake, John Cable. The mill, which processed logs, wheat and corn and was originally operated by millwright Daniel Ledbetter, continued to function in some fashion until the 1920s.

Smokemont Bridge

Night on the Lake

We spent the night out on the lake last night.  We enjoyed a beautiful sunset, and the sweet serenade of crickets and frogs.  We even caught a glimpse of some shooting stars.

Chapel in the Hills

The chapel is an exact replica of the famous Borgund stavkirke, of Laerdal, Norway. The Borgund stavkirke was built around the year 1150 and is considered the most completely preserved stave church still standing in Norway.  The Chapel in the Hills was dedicated on July 6, 1969, and it served as the home of Lutheran Vespers until 1975. At that time a non-profit corporation took over operation of the Chapel in the Hills and operates it to this day.

The circle of sacred smoke sculpture honors the Native American people and represents the first puff of smoke from a newly lit pipe.  According to the National Park Service, over twenty tribes have potential cultural affiliation with Devils Tower National Monument.

Grand Prismatic

The Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone National Park.

It's amazing how clear and blue the spring waters are, which lends to its name.  Its liquid colors are only matched by the rainbow dispersion of sunlight into a prism of reds, oranges, yellows, greens, and blues.  The edges are also tainted with red to green colored bacteria that grow around the mineral rich waters.
