Pathfinder

The Pathfinder Space Shuttle was a mock up used by NASA for activities such as checking roadway clearances, crane capabilities and fits within structures. It was later shipped by barge to the Kennedy Space Center and was used for ground crew testing in the Vehicle Assembly Building, Orbiter Processing Facility, and Shuttle Landing Facility. Pathfinder is approximately the same size, shape and weight of an actual Orbiter.

Now it's home is at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

Path to Serenity

The path up to the summit of Fort Mountain, in North Georgia.  The mountain received its name from an 885 foot long rock wall located close to the peak. The zigzagging wall contains pits scattered along the wall, in addition to a ruin of a gateway. The wall was constructed from local stones and is believed that the wall was built by local Native Americans around 500 A.D. for religious purposes.

There are also several legends concerning the wall. One legend claims that the wall is a remnant of one of the several stone forts legendary Welsh explorer Madoc.  Another legend is a fortification for Hernando De Soto's Conquistadors or a honeymoon haven for Cherokee newlyweds.

Canyon Diablo Crater, famously know as Meteor Crater near Winslow Arizona. It lies at an elevation of about 1,740 m (5,709 ft) above sea level. It is about 1,200 m (4,000 ft) in diameter, some 170 m deep (570 ft), and is surrounded by a rim that rises 45 m (150 ft) above the surrounding plains. Stormy Blue

Blue skies break through behind lower hanging storm clouds.  It always amazes me, the weather and cloud formations.  You will never see the same shapes twice.  It can go from peaceful to turmoil with a quick flash of lighting.

Nina's Garden

Nina Craigmiles was born on August 5th in 1864. She and her family lived in downtown Cleveland, TN.

Nina Craigmiles was born on August 5th in 1864. She and her family lived in downtown Cleveland, TN. One of Nina’s favorite pastimes was to drive the horse and buggy. On October 18, 1874 she and her grandfather were out on a ride, and she was going too fast. The horse and buggy was unfortunately hit by a fast moving train. Her grandfather Gideon survived, but little Nina, was killed instantly.

Nina, and her family are resting in a mausoleum which is located at the north end of Saint Lukes Church. People have said that they have heard the voice and crying of a little girl coming from the mausoleum. Also, to the rear of the mausoleum there is a garden, which was constructed in Little Nina’s memory. Inside the garden is a marker, which reads “Nina’s Little Garden”. People have claimed to have seen a little girl, dressed in the 1800’s style clothing, playing in the garden and also to have had their children tell stories of playing with a little girl who suddenly disappears.

What is most interesting about the Mausoleum is the story of the reappearing blood stains. There is a portion of marble blocks located at the top of the mausoleum that have had an apparent blood stain for a number of years.  The blood stains appeared shortly after the placement of Nina’s body into the vault. These stains have been whitewashed away only to reappear after a number of days. Local construction men have gone as far as to replace the blocks just to have the stains reappear.

8 minutes and 19 seconds

The sun is approx. 149.6 million kilometers (or 1AU) away from us and it takes light 8 minutes and 19 seconds to reach us here on our little blue planet.  The Sun accounts for about 99.86% to the total mass of our solar system, and Hydrogen and Helium make up the majority of its composition.

Upon closer inspection of the image, you can pick out sunspots, which appear darker because they are at a lower temperature than the surrounding surface.

This image was captured using prime focus with my NexStar 5, a solar filter and my Canon 3Ti.  The solar filter blocks 99.9%  of the incoming light.
