Connecting Dots

During an extended exposure astrophotography shot, two airplanes left trails across the sky.  In this 15 second exposure, each dot along the line are the lights blinking from the aircraft.   In this particular one, I thought the antenna in the foreground would add some interest to the photograph.

This shot was taken on the outskirts of Santa Rosa NM.  We spent a few hours out in the cold trying to get a few good shots.

Cathedral of the Plains

In 1872 the first settlers moved into west Kansas with the intention of duplicating their aristocratic lives in spite of harsh weather and rough ground.  They named their village, Victoria, in honor of their queen and laid out the streets according to the plan of London architect.

The structure stands in the form of a cross, facing west with its majestic towers rising above dominating the prairie landscape.  On the facade above the rose window, a stone rising above dominating the prairie landscape.  On the facade above the rose window, a stone statue of its patron, St. Fidelis keeps watch.  The church is 220' long, 110' wide at the transcepts and 75' at the nave.  Its ceiling is 44' above the ground and the towers rise 141'.  The seating capacity of 1,100 made it, at the time of its dedication, the largest church west of the Mississippi.

Ypsilon Mountain

Ypsilon Mountain (far right peak) stands 13,514 ft above sea level, and is accompanied by Mount Chapin (left) and Mount Chiquita (center). They are located in the Rocky Mountain National Park.  This photography was taken from a viewing area at Horseshoe Park, a name given from the meandering river that flows through the valley and could have possibly resembled horseshoes to early settlers.

Cloudy Peaks

Snow covered peaks break through the clouds from a view atop Keystone Resort's North Peak in Colorado - from an elevation of 11,660. My family and I enjoyed this trip, and love that part of the country.  It's blue skies are what makes it, along with being able to see for miles, sometimes all the way to the horizon.  The expanse makes for great views of the landscape, sunrises, sunsets, and more.  One day we will live out there.

I want to thank everyone for your support and continual visits to the site.  It has been a little over a year since I started this website and I have officially surpassed 10K hits on the site.  I hope that you find the photographs here inspirational, motivational, thought provoking and continue to visit from time to time.
