Spirit Totems

These Wupatki Spirit Totems sit right off the shoulder of Highway 89 north of Wupatki National Monument. No one seems to know the origin of the spirit totem nor exactly how long it’s been present on “Deadman Flats” and the edge of Navajo lands. Locals will tell you the totem has been around “a very long time” or “for as long as I remember.”

Watson Lake

Watson Lake, Prescott Arizona

Watson lake is one of the reservoirs created in the 1900's when a dam was built on Granite Creek outside of Prescott.  The lake is surrounded by granite cliffs and you can easily identify the high water mark from the whitewashed hues of the stones.

Eye of the Elephant

Eye of the Elephant

The setting sun shines through one of the arches in the formation known as Parade of Elephants.

As everyone one else was rushing to get into position to take photos of Double, Windows, and Turret Arches, I walked down the road just a little to wait for the sun to align itself perfectly behind the Parade of Elephants.   I never imagined I'd get a shot like this!
